Play-to-Earn (P2E)
The fusion between gaming and crypto: Play-to-Earn.
At first glance, it seems too good to be true! But as you delve deeper, you gradually realize that we're far from it! Several projects of video games integrating crypto are in development, and have a (maybe) promising future, but most of those already released are either abandoned or lack substantial gameplay.
It will still take some time before we see games like GTA, FIFA, and Call of Duty in a P2E version with crypto.
Play-to-Earn
Here are some of the Play-to-Earn games that have already been released, some of which have seen varying degrees of success. They offer real gameplay and don't require a lot of money (crypto and/or NFT) to play:
Click-to-Earn
During the previous Bullrun (2021/2022), a Click-to-Earn trend emerged in late 2021. Most of them operated on a pyramid scheme model, and many no longer exist or have been completely abandoned (RIP Bombcrypto, Cryptomine, or even Zodiacs). However, a few have withstood the bear market, notably Alien Worlds and SunFlower.
Move-to-Earn
Several types of Play-to-Earn (P2E) have emerged over time. Move-to-Earn gained popularity for a while, with Step'n leading the way. Today, these P2E have lost value, like most P2E and NFT collections, but the idea remains present and has potential.
Metaverse
Metaverses were originally associated with Play-to-Earn (P2E). However, the unique aspect of metaverses is that they serve as hubs, without necessarily featuring gameplay. They're not games themselves (like RPGs or FPS), but rather interactive virtual spaces where players can connect and engage in various activities. The two major names in this space are still Decentraland and The Sandbox, but other projects are striving to develop and make their mark. It's a space worth keeping an eye on...
Triple A
What I refer to as "Triple-A" are P2E games with advanced graphics. These are games with graphics so demanding that it would be difficult to play them on a low-end laptop. They are games that take years to develop, and many in the P2E community eagerly anticipate their release. Some are already playable in beta, while others are still in development.
All these games have dedicated channels on the Discord server. Most of my Twitch streams focused on P2E in 2021/2022, alongside crypto. I continue to monitor the development of major P2E titles to watch, so feel free to join the Discord if you want to learn more.
